Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during the consultation?

The consultation is a free 20-minute conversation.

We'll talk about what is bringing you to therapy, what you're hoping will change, and whether my approach seems like a good fit for your goals.

You'll also have plenty of time to ask questions about therapy, my approach, or anything else that would help you decide whether working together feels right.

There's no obligation to schedule after the consultation. Its purpose is to help both of us decide whether working together feels like a good fit.

What are your fees?

I see new patients for a 90-minute initial therapy appointment.

The initial appointment gives us time to understand what you want to work on together, clarify what has been happening, begin developing a shared understanding of what may be keeping you stuck and start to work experientially so you can decide if this approach makes sense for you. I recommend we meet in person for this appointment if feasible.

For ongoing therapy I offer both 50-minute and 80-minute therapy sessions.

My fee schedule is:

  • 50-minute therapy session: $225

  • 80-minute therapy session: $375

  • 90-minute initial therapy session: $375

  • 30-minute medication focused appointment: $175

  • 20-minute initial consultation: Free

If we decide to work together, we'll choose the session length that best fits your needs and goals.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly.

Many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy. You may check your out-of-network benefits by calling your insurance company or using the tool below.

If you would like to seek reimbursement, I can provide a superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance company. I am able to provide claim information to Mentaya to simplify the reimbursement process if you wish to use their service.

Can I work with you if I’m already taking medication?

Definitely. I think of myself as a therapist who can prescribe when it is useful. If you already have a medication plan that is working for you it does not need to impact our work.

If you need a clinician to work with you on your medication plan we can discuss whether I would be a good fit in combination with our therapy work.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I can prescribe psychiatric medication when it is clinically appropriate.

My practice is therapy focused. If medication is or becomes part of your care, we'll discuss your goals and your particular situation. For some patients, it is helpful for me to provide both therapy and medication management. For others, it may make more sense for another clinician to manage medications while we focus on therapy.

How often will we meet?

Most clients begin with weekly therapy. As treatment progresses, we'll decide together whether another schedule makes sense based on your goals and progress.

Do you offer longer therapy sessions?

Yes.

I offer both 50-minute and 80-minute ongoing therapy sessions.

Some people find that shorter sessions fit well into their schedules, while others prefer having more time to work in greater depth.

We'll decide together which format makes the most sense for your treatment.

Do you offer therapy intensives?

In addition to ongoing therapy, I may offer occasional extended therapy sessions (approximately four hours with a one-hour mid-session break) when they are clinically appropriate or, in some situations, better fit a client's schedule.

These are not necessary for everyone, but they can be a helpful option in certain situations.

If you're curious whether an intensive might be appropriate, we can discuss it during our consultation or as therapy progresses.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes.

I offer secure telehealth and in-person appointments.

Where are you licensed?

I am licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in:

  • Virginia

  • Maryland

  • Washington, DC

You must be physically located in one of these jurisdictions at the time of telehealth appointments.

Do you record therapy sessions?

With your permission, I may record therapy sessions for my own review or for consultation with experienced supervisors. This is a long-standing part of how ISTDP therapists continue developing their skills and ensuring thoughtful, high-quality care.

Recording is always optional, and your decision will not affect the care you receive.
