Jonathan Yoder, PMHNP
Therapy for adults with depression and stress-related physical symptoms in Alexandria, Virginia.
A collaborative space to get curious about your thoughts and emotions—even when it feels awkward or uncomfortable—because understanding yourself more honestly creates new possibilities for how you live and relate to others.
Your symptoms deserve more than a diagnosis.
They deserve careful attention to the person experiencing them.
I specialize in therapy for people who have been trying to get better already. When you and I work together, we'll pay careful attention to your experiences to understand the patterns keeping you stuck.
Our sessions provide a space and structure to make sense of those patterns so you can make the changes you need in order to reclaim your life.
You are feeling stuck with symptoms that have not improved despite your efforts to figure out solutions.
Together, we'll use the therapy relationship to help you understand yourself more honestly, map the emotional patterns that are keeping you stuck, and practice different ways of relating to yourself and to others.
The therapeutic relationship itself becomes a place to practice new ways of relating, which you can then transfer into the rest of your life.
Change is possible.
What I believe about therapy
People make sense.
Our reactions are understandable, even when we wish they were different.
Symptoms make sense.
Sometimes strategies that once protected us can begin to contribute to the very symptoms we're trying to escape.
New experiences matter.
Therapy can help us experience our emotions, ourselves and our relationships in new ways, first in therapy sessions and then in our broader lives.
Understanding matters.
Careful attention creates understanding.
The relationship matters.
In my own life and in my work with patients, I've seen that relating to someone who is curious, inviting, and open to meeting us as we actually are, not as we wish we were, can be transformative.
Freedom matters.
When we can begin to accept our feelings, thoughts, and reactions, even the messy, uncomfortable ones, without having to avoid them, we become freer to live more fully in reality.
Training & Experience
